For those looking to live by the beach and buy the cheapest home, hunting for properties in Queensland's east coast is like hitting two birds with one stone.

According to the latest CoreLogic Market Trends data, the lowest median price in the country last year was $25,000 — recorded in Balgal Beach, which is north of Townsville in Queensland.

My Property Agent Robyn Neilson told The Courier-Mail that the Balgal Beach area is home to around 1,500 people.

"There are just magnificent sandy beaches and you can see the ocean from the Townsville mainland and Magnetic Island all the way up to Hinchinbrook Island, and you’ve got the beautiful rainforest mountains to the west as well," she said.

Neilson owns one of the cheapest houses currently listed in the suburb. Her house is an open-plan shed-home with two bedrooms and one bathroom.

"This gives you the amazing opportunity to either live there while you build your dream home, or keep your long-term tenant there for some extra income. Or move in yourself," she said.

The Balgal Beach is host to many places of interest, including the Mystic Sands Golf and Bowling Club, Crystal Creek waterfalls, and Paluma rainforest. There are also beachside parks, modern playgrounds, and a public boat ramp.

Within proximity are essential institutions like a primary school, a medical center and pharmacy, general stores, and a post office.
